The County of San Mateo was granted sovereign tide and submerged lands in trust in 1893 for public purposes. In 1947, a portion of the County’s grant was granted to the City and County of San Francisco for airport uses in connection with the San Francisco Airport. In 1965, the County was granted sovereign tide and submerged lands in trust in property lying partly in the City of San Mateo and partly in the City of Burlingame. The County’s grant allows for the establishment, improvement, and conduct of a harbor, small boat harbor, airport, heliport, aviation facilities,  marinas, aquatic playgrounds, and similar recreational facilities, for the construction, reconstruction, repair, maintenance and operation of public buildings, public assembly and meeting places, convention centers, parks, playgrounds, bathhouses, and bathing facilities, recreation and fishing piers, public recreation facilities, works, buildings, facilities, utilities, structures, and appliances that promote and accommodate these uses or are incidental, necessary or convenient for the promotion and accommodation of commerce and navigation by air or water.

San Mateo County

The County is required by Section 6306 of the Public Resources Code to complete an annual financial statement and standardized reporting form for trust lands on or before December 31 of each year.

Chapter 24, Statutes of 1893 An Act to declare certain tide lands public grounds, and granting the same to the County of San Mateo in trust for the use of the public.
Chapter 872, Statutes of 1947 An act to grant to the City and County of San Francisco any and all right, title and interest of the State of California in and to those certain tide and submerged lands and situated in the County of San Mateo for development and use in connection with the San Francisco Airport in San Mateo County and as a part of the public airport being used, operated and maintained by the City and County of San Francisco, regulating the management, use and control thereof, and authorizing the reclamation and improvement thereof, all in conjunction with the use, operation and maintenance of the San Francisco Airport in San Mateo County.
Chapter 1857, Statutes of 1965 An act conveying in trust certain tidelands and submerged lands lying under the waters of San Francisco Bay to the County of San Mateo in furtherance of navigation and commerce and the fisheries and providing for the government, management and control thereof, and reserving rights to the state.
