Strategic Plan

The Commission’s Strategic Plan establishes long‑term priorities, guides organizational direction, and supports the Commission’s mission to manage California’s public lands and natural resources responsibly.

The Commission develops and adopts a Strategic Plan every five years. The Commission is now preparing its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. This upcoming plan will address public access, climate change and sea level rise, environmental justice, tribal relations, sustainable public land management, and environmental protection, guiding the Commission’s work in these important areas over the next four years. The Commission adopted its first Strategic Plan in 2015, The first plan established the Commission as a leader in land and resource management, prioritized transparency, set high standards for safety and environmental protection, and emphasized leveraging technology to enhance public engagement and improve public land management.

In 2021, the Commission adopted its second Strategic Plan, which built upon the progress achieved under the previous plan. That plan identified emerging challenges and opportunities and outlined the Commission’s priorities for the next five years and beyond.
