Santa Cruz County

The County of Santa Cruz was granted sovereign tidelands and submerged lands in trust in 1935 for the establishment, improvement and conduct of a harbor, for the construction, maintenance and operation of wharves, docks, piers, slips, quays and other utilities, structures and appliances necessary or convenient for the promotion of commerce, navigation and fisheries, and for boathouses and bathing facilities. The grant was amended, in part, to allow the County to convey its grant to another public agency within a ten-year time period. The County transferred a portion of its grant to the City of Capitola in 1978.
