Hazards Management

To assure the public's health and safety on beach areas and water ways under its jurisdiction, the California State Lands Commission has developed an aggressive effort to remove man-made structures which may be hazards to public health and safety. These tend to be remnants of piers, groins and abandoned oil and gas related structures. Under this program, such objects which present a potential danger and obstruction to the public's use and enjoyment of beaches, bays and other waterways are identified and removed according to a priority removal plan which relies on the Legislature for funding.
